How Do You See Yourself?

How we see ourselves is as important as how others see us. We might be unaware of it or deny it,but this is the reality..

  3. It is Saturday today. Most of us do not go to work on Saturday,we do work but not going to office to do it.
What do we do on Saturday? We visit family members, meeting friends or we simply stay at home and occupy ourselves with our hobbies.
Some of us go out eating at restaurant.Eating at restaurant has its own etiquette to be observed and practised.
When entering the restaurant,do wait for the waiter/waitress to attend to us.He/she knows where to place us in the restaurant.
When we have taken our seats, do ensure that both feet are on the ground. Why? Aren't our feet supposed to carry us around? They are created to be down.Secondly, our shoes have accumulated some dirty particles below our feet. Hygiene is the important factor here.
Both hands are free to move, but do remember that elbows are not meant to be on the table.Unless you want to create a negative impression of yourself..
When the food is served, there are some etiquette needs to be observed. 3rd Eye will elaborate another time...

  5. "Tell me what you eat.I tell you what you are"..Eating sounds simple for those who are not aware of the etiquette.Realistically, each culture has its own etiquette based on the tradition and custom of each society, and internationally there is International Etiquette too.Either way we have to respect and observe the etiquette. The higher we go, the more refined we have to become. Why? Etiquette is about the correct form and order.Respecting oneself and others. So that we are not misunderstood. It also gives self-confidence.It's just like on the road we have to respect the traffic lights and all the road signs. These are the Law and Order on the road. There are etiquette to everything we do in this life. The book on etiquette is as thick as the Holy Books.

The most common etiquette which most people are aware of and talked about is the Dining Etiquette. The difference between us human being and the animals is that we have manners and etiquette. We can't simply squat on the chair while eating or dining. Our legs are not supposed to be in the plates like the chickens when they eat.So are our whole hands should not be on the table like the apes,no matter how much we enjoy the food. Our two legs and feet are supposed to be firm on the ground when we sit on the chair.Only the two palms are allowed to be placed on the table for scooping the food from the plate to feed to our mouth. Our body is to sit erect so that the food can flow smoothly down to our stomach.Beside,it makes our abdomen smooth and flat without any folds.

There is the correct way of using cutlery too.Fork is to be on the left side and spoon/knife on the right. All cutlery are arranged according to the menu being served. The best way to learn Dining Etiquette is to attend the class usually comes with simulation where you can practised with the coach/trainer.

Chewing should not be like a goat or a cow.We have to chew elegantly from left to right, left right again till the food is finely ground, then we swallow it. This habit is good for our digestion.

When finished eating, the fork and spoon/knife must be placed next to each other with the handles slanting slightly at the lower brim of the plate.

Dessert is served after the main course.Dessert are mostly fresh fruits,ice-cream, pudding, cakes and jellies.

Use dessert fork and dessert spoon for the fresh fruits, pudding and jellies. The rest use either only dessert spoon or fork.Use fork on the right hand when eating dessert.

Final course is tea or coffee.Even the technique of holding the tea or coffee cups must be learnt and practised. The thumb and index fingers only are to grip the cup's handle. They are not supposed to be gripping the hole of the handle. You need to attend the class to be able to understand this. All these need practice.

Well Norma Norell 3rd Eye's friends, are you aware now that even simple thing like eating needs to respect the correct form and order which is called etiquette?.Some might think that they don't like to observe it.Well, you have the freedom to decide whether to be a polished person or just a sloppy clown? People remember you forever either way.Pick your choice dear friends!

  6. When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing that you should do? The best is look at your self in the mirror and thank GOD for another day of life...Smile at your reflection in the mirror. This smile is the energy booster. When you can't smile in the morning, the mood of the rest of the day is not smiling too.

After praying/saying your prayer/meditation in the morning, smile at your reflection, drink at least half liter of plain water. This is a good cleansing for your body system, especially your kidney.

Do some light breathing and cardio-exercises in the morning so that your stamina is replenished for the rest of the day.Stamina and energy contributes to a person's productivity in the day.Either at the working place or at home.

A person's lack of energy consequently contributes to lack of enthusiasm too.We have met many people who lack in enthusiasm. It shows clearly in their attitude towards their work and life in general.

Enthusiasm leads to a person's productivity at working place and energy level is always high.Enthusiasm makes a person stay active at home and contributes his/her time with family members or house mates with full enthusiasm too..

Enthusiasm is an attitude that you have to instill in yourself.

  7. "Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder"..
Look around us,natural beauty of landscape has been ruined by the developers and those live without guilt or awareness. Women are obsessed by plastic surgery, filling and injecting synthetics objects in/on their face. Where has the real beauty gone? It all has gone to the cosmetics surgeons clinics and remains there. Isn't it amazing in the near future when all the Miss Universe/Miss World or whatever Misses titles should be categorised as Miss Universe Natural & Miss Universe Plastic? :-D
This will be the accurate one. Can you imagine when all the contestants of beauty pageants have boobs like Bay watch girls? The truth is GOD didn't create boobs like the Bay Watch girls because boobs have their own function to the mankind. They are supposed to propagate the 'keepers of this universe' with good nutritious food when they are infants. So, dear ladies, do think many times before augmenting your lovely natural boobs.Once they are augmented, they look firm no doubt, but they are just useless to the human nature.
It needs a lot of inner confidence to accept ourselves naturally as how GOD had created it to be. The keyword here is 'self-confidence',emotionally and psychologically'.

  8. Hello again dear followers of NN's 3rd Eye...
How many of you are regulars to the gym? NN is one.NN's 3rd Eye noticed that most people who frequent the gym still do not understand the ETIQUETTE AT THE GYM.

When going to the gym we all must wear the appropriate attire ,which means shoes too,for the workouts at the gym. Many are still blur about this. The attire must be suitable for the activities that we are involved with. What's important is that the gym outfit must be comfortable and yet fitted enough so that when we lift up our arms or legs the shirt sleeves or the crotch line don't burst.Secondly, when we are doing floor exercises which need the legs to be moved up and down,we need to wear fitted pants, other wise the pants would be slipping right down to the thigh when we lift them up.

Body Odour is the main problem at the gym.It is killing everyone when doing workouts next to someone with body odour. Where does it come from dear friends? It's from the long under arm hair which are unkempt. It's the sweaty hair which blocks the sweat glands which causes the stench. So, to avoid this problem ,keep your underarm hair trimmed short so that there is ventilation under your arm.Do not forget to apply under arm anti-perspirant which is dry and long lasting.NN uses a special crystal because she is avoiding the aluminium in the commercial anti-perspirant or deodorant.

Do bring your own towel to the gym if the gym does not provide the towels. The towels are for wiping our excessive sweat which keeps on dripping while we are exercising.Etiquette is about respecting ourselves and being considerate to others.Your attitude reflects your inner self. Ask yourself are you a hygienic and clean person innerly? If not, no wonder we see so many stylish men and women with the up-to-date gym attires but some still do not bring any towels with them and they prefer to pollute the gym with their dripping stinking sweat. For those who have long under arm hair and yet frequent gym goers,it is high time to keep your little garden under your arm hygienic and clean,so that the rest of gym members do not have to hold their breath when they are doing their workouts next to you.One of these days, if you kept on keeping untrimmed weeds in your 'under arm garden',someone might faint next to you..Watch out folks!

  9. NN loves traveling.By car, boat, ship, train and plane.Flying is most favourable. It's a wonderful feeling to be able to fly high up in the sky though she is not a bird neither is she a Superwoman.

When we fly,we can't help noticing the people who are in the aeroplane,as that is our only surrounding while high up in the sky..

The most significant is the flight attendants or those days in the 70' and 80's we called them air-stewardess and air-steward. Most girls and boys in school when asked what would they like to be after finished schooling? Most boys would say they would like to be pilots or air-stewards. The pretty girls would like to be air-stewardesses.The image of this profession was very glamorous.

In the 90's the image of this profession gradually declined. Why? There were many reasons that caused the decline. Firstly, those individuals with these professions themselves who dropped the image of their their own profession.Mainly it's their attitude to be blamed. Secondly, the Management tried to cut cost on training of their personnel, consequently it affected the image of the total organisation.

Whether it is a business selling products,or business selling services, it is a business of relationship between people. Each individual in an organisation/company, has to be able to handle others positively and has to upgrade his/her attitude towards others. One has to master the Social and Communication Skills.Have you been to those countries where the citizens are rude? Remember the day when Hong Kong citizens learned Customers Service and manners after SARS attacked them? Arrogance in serving customers is equivalent to ignorance in People-Management. Once a person decides to be in business,he/she should be aware that it is a business of handling people.

Appearance is a reflection of your attitude towards your profession and your own self. Some professions need the staffs to be creatively artistic,eg; those in advertising companies or designers. Some need them to be sexy and alluring,eg the Social Escorts. Some profession need them to dress up in classic style, though it looks a little conservative, classic dressing is the most appropriate style for respectable professions.

Hair has to be neat and tidy. This is applicable to all professionals. Female staffs with hair length below shoulder, they should tie their hair neatly or coiffed it into neat chignon/buns.This is very important for those in service sector like in the hospital, restaurant, airlines ,sports business, schools etc..

These days most flight attendants do not wear head-gears any longer, except for Emirates,Qatar,Etihad and some others.SIA is noted for its elegance and neatness. But sad to say there are some airlines which do not care about the professional appearance of their flight staffs. The guys are mostly neat and have stylish hairstyle. But some female attendants are not aware that they are in the service sector which requires the neat and elegant image. Some female flight attendants simply package themselves as beer or cigarette promoters.

If we do not respect our appearance at work, think again who will dear NNIED's friends?

  10. SMILE is when the corners of the upper and lower lips curve upwards. Frown is when the two lips do the opposite. It sounds very simple, yet it is hard to practise."Smile, and the whole world smiles with you".

When NN was sojourning in Germany few years ago,she learnt that most people in the Northern Hemisphere are not 'smile friendly' or should we say they are suspicious when a stranger smiles at them.In southern parts of Europe, most people are warmer. They can smile whenever they feel like. They are responsive to some people who smile at them too.NN thinks it has something to do with the climate or the weather. Northern Europe is cold, thus it affects the people's attitude too.In France, when you checked into a prestigious hotel and happened to dress up shabbily, the personnel of the hotel wouldn't even entertain you well, neither would they smile at you.

China and Hong Kong used to be very sterile and unfriendly to customers. They never knew how to smile,or said the magic words like "I am sorry, please, thank you, excuse me or may I?". When someone knocked you while walking, the person would just pretend as though nothing happened. The sales person would stare at you sternly and said "Don't touch" the goods. Little did they realise that they were in business and Customers Service is very vital here. The Chinese in China and the Hong Kong folks learnt Customers Service through SARS epidemic in the early 21st century.

In South East Asian countries, the female gender like to giggle and grin most of the time.NN's 3rd Eye noticed that they giggled and grin not because they were truly happy, but it was more of an escapism for avoiding people from noticing their ignorance and naivety. Why? It was mostly the less educated who would grin and giggle at the irrelevant place and time. This was their weapon. Those days most European men would like to bring home a giggly-grinning S.E.Asian girl as their life partner.

When NN went to African countries like Gambia,Senegal, the people there smiled less and they were suspicious and curious of foreigners. They would touch NN's hair and skin and asked, "Chinois? Japonaise?".Translated: "Chinese? Japanese?". They were too poor to smile at anyone or anything. But one habit NN admires about the Africans is that they sing all the time.It does not matter whether they are happy or sad they love to sing.North African countries like Morocco,Algeria,Egypt and Tunisia, the female gender are not allowed to simply smile at strangers. It was forbidden even to snap their photos without permission.

As for NN personally, her mother raised her not to be grinning, giggling or smiling at the wrong place and time.Mother said that being a girl and a 'lady' , she had to respect herself and others too. By smiling at wrong place and time, she said people would have inaccurate impression of the girl/lady.Sometimes it would make a person feels uncomfortable. Later when she has matured, NN learnt that smiling in our heart is reflected in our eyes. This is the smile that we have to practise when meeting people whom we are not familiar with. It is alright to smile to those whom we are familiar with. This is simply, being a female, when we smile irrelevantly, some male species (even male Orang Utan) might get the wrong message about a female gender... This is just like a girl wearing a skimpy dress, and when someone (a maniac)attacks her or tries to be funny with her,she would get annoyed. But psychologically, she has already given the message to the male species that "Hey look at how sexy I am" through her dressing.

Smiling is free, but we have to be aware that it needs to be done at the right place and time. This is for security reason as we know that Dr Sigmund Freud said that in every second, men generally and constantly visualise female gender (sex) in their head...So young ladies and matured ones too, be careful it is a wild jungle outside there :-).Handle your smile accurately to the time, place and people you are with!

  11. It's 07.00hr in the morning. It's a winter morning. The view at NN's window is still dark and all the street lights are still flickering like the stars in the sky. What a beautiful Sunday morning!
    It's a beautiful significant morning. It's NN's birthday today.Happy birthday NN!:-)
    Another year has passed...

Reflecting on the things NN has done, contributed and yet she still has passion, enthusiasm and empathy in so many things and want to contribute more to the people and their life.

Yes, NN loves to help people to help themselves. Most people want to improve their life, but they seem lost because they need a mentor/s to show them the way...

NN feels this is her purpose of living, helping others to improve themselves and being their mentor.A mentor has to be sincere and has no ulterior motives..

Looking back at NN's life. Her fist feather on her hat is a professionally trained Artist/Designer from the faculty of Art & Design ,majored in Fashion/Textile.Then she did a Post-Graduate study in Fabric Dye Technology.Later, she certified herself as an Image Management Consultant/Coach/Trainer..Very soon she will attend the university again doing Social Psychology.

Through her career she has had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life with different culture, academic qualifications, social status, ages and diverse life exposure and experience. She has been trotting this globe (and still is) over and over again. Her life exposure and experience have matured, made her wise and not judgmental or discriminating about people.

On the way to the top one always has to undergo many mishaps, difficulties, meeting detractors and sometimes things get so rough and tough, that one would feel like surrendering or quitting. NN has learnt that no matter how tough and rough,it must get going..

Some people prefer to have short cuts to the top.Short cut is not always the right and easy cut.Remember Annie Lennox's song "Sweet Dream"? It says,"Sweet dreams are made of these...Some of them want to use u.Some of them want to be used by u..Some of them want to abuse u..". How right she is!Some people would back-stab their own friends in order to achieve their dreams. What they forget is that this life is not owned by them. They forget that this universe is owned by the MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE (GOD!).

So,NNIED's friends,do remember that a person's goals,objectives,determination,his/her attitude are the main factors in achieving the achievements that he/she dreams of.Positive attitude with self confidence and emotional security lead us to a positive achievement.
Why do some people have jealousy and behave like a 'female dog' (bitch)? It is simply they lack self-confidence,not secured emotionally and psychologically retarded...

Are you one of those insecured people? Ask and assess yourself my dear friends! This has nothing to do with your academic qualification. It has a lot to do with your upbringing and inner self image.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lao-Tze said,"We must not criticise a man before we walk with him in his shoes for one thousand miles"..

This is a good proverb for those who are jealous of other people's achievements or the detractors who are not happy of other people's success..

Think of this dear friends. Before a person succeeds in whatever he/she does, he/she has to jump and undergo all the hurdles, persevere the hardship with courage and patience take the challenges with confidence..

So, never ever be jealous of someone's success or achievements.

  13. "They can't hurt you, unless you let them". Yes, self-confidence is hard to find.Neither can you buy it from departmental store or acquire it from the scroll of degree that you obtained on your graduation from the university. How else can we develop self confidence? Self-confidence has be to instilled and developed through learning, adapting and adopting by using our senses, mingling with the positive people and use a lot of our common sense..

Common sense can not be found in the school text books. It is not common either...So, to gain self-confidence,we need to have positive attitude in overcoming our weakness and confront our fears..

  14. Have you ever observed how black and white have controlled the fashion world? If this world is meant to be only in black and white, why then GOD created all other colours? Have you ever thought about this? How dull life would be without colours! The whole world would be filled with crows, mosquitoes, magpies and seagulls !

Some people say,"Oh,my favourite colour is black. I love black". Some say, "Oh my favourite colour is white.I love white".

Black and white have been misinterpreted absolutely. Why is it so? We blame it on the media. Most journalists who are assigned to the fashion page, are not professionally trained at Art College/University as Artists or designers.Only those who are trained in Art & Design understands that BLACK and WHITE are not colours. They are just pigments.Artists and Designers use black to shade the base colours and use white to tint them. So, black and white are not colours dear friends!

Black decreases shape visually and white enlarges shape. Thus, the over-weight people think that they look slim in black and the thin people think they look good in white. This perception is true to some extend..

There are other factors which influence the magic of colours on a person. It is basically a person's skin-tone.For example, when a person is born with warm skin-tone, black makes the person looks harsh and white makes him/her looks blast. Black and white look good on a person with cool skin-tone.Warm skin-tone looks good in dark brown/black as their black. Ivory or off white is warm skin-tone best white.

You see the difference? So, do not follow the media blindly my friends or listen to someone who is not qualified to asses you objectively.. Assess and recognise yourself first before choosing any clothes,accessories,make-up and personal belongings that involved colours.Do not be victimised by the fashion magazines either.

When your colour grouping is accurate, you can feel the difference and others notice you! This is one of the secrets of looking good and feel good all the time..

  15. Have you ever wondered why do some organisations do not send their personnel for self-development training? They assume that soft skill training is unimportant. Most of them assume that if someone is having a good degree, that particular person is automatically has polished attitude, manners, courtesy, behaviour and etiquette. They also are not aware that a personnel is their product/brand and also an asset of their organisation. There are two factors involved here. One is academic qualification, which is needed in job and salary specification.Beside,it is also equivalent to a visa in entering working world. The other aspect is the human factor.Which is the most important factor because every personnel is dealing with people daily. Business is about relationship between people...

Most management groups do not believe in First Impression, and that First Impression is the lasting impression...They talk about branding as something alien. They are confused about a company's "IDENTITY","BRAND" and "BRANDING".

Either we make it,or break it during first impression.Eyes play important role at the first encounter or meeting with a person."What you hear you forget. What you see,you remember. What you do/practise,you understand"
